How our carpet repair process works

  1. Tell us about the problem

Call us or fill in the form. If you can, send us a phone photo with a coin or your hand in it for scale. We give you a considered estimate, and if you're happy with it, you book a time for us to come to you.

  2. We find a piece of your carpet

The patch has to be your own carpet. If you kept an off-cut when it was laid, we use that. If not, we take a small piece from inside a wardrobe or cupboard and fill that gap with a plain off-cut of ours.

  3. We patch the damage

We cut out the damaged area and no more, fit your piece with the pile running the same way, and secure the join underneath.

Carpet repair questions we get asked

Can you patch or repair very small areas of damage, like hair dye spots, nail polish, glue, or small burns and scorches around a fireplace?

Yes, very small areas are often very successful simply because they are so small and not too obvious. It's a matter of using available spare carpet, or carpet from a wardrobe or cupboard, and patching in tiny plugs of carpet to remove the burns or any very small damage.

Can you clean away mould stains, for instance pot-plant marks?

No, it's best to cut out the damaged area, and possibly the affected underlay beneath, and patch in a replacement.

How do you repair damage caused by a cat or other pets?

Usually, the damaged area (and no more) needs to be cut out and replaced with some fresh carpet. If you don't have any spare carpet, it's very common for us to take a small section from the darkest corner of a wardrobe or cupboard, a little gap which we in turn fill with a small off-cut of our own, plain but non-matching.

How do you stretch or restretch a carpet?

A simple but strong tool called a power-stretcher is placed on the carpet, with its 'foot' resting against one wall while the 'head', which has sharp teeth, is placed at the opposite side of the room. A ratchet lever attached to the head is used to gently pull the carpet tight again. Excess carpet, surprisingly often no more than 10 to 20 mm, is trimmed off and the carpet is refinished to the wall.

Boyce is brilliant! I highly recommend him for his workmanship and he is polite, clean, tidy and very reasonably priced. We should have contacted him earlier and not put off the repairs we needed.

Boyce is an absolute wizard, I really thought there was no way the damage in the carpet wouldn't lead to having to replace it entirely, but he worked magic with a small off cut and you can't even tell there was an issue in the first place. He's also really friendly and professional, I highly recommend him.

Repairing a carpet costs a fraction of a new carpet.

Re-carpeting a room means uplift, underlay, disposal and a new carpet that may not match the next room. A repair deals with the damaged area and no more.

We'll be honest about the result. Carpet that has been out in the room for years has faded and worn, so a patch rarely matches it perfectly. A good repair is a real improvement, far less noticeable than the damage, rather than a perfect match.

If a repair isn't the right call for your carpet, we'll tell you.
