Repairing carpet damaged by cats and dogs in Wellington
Clawed corners, dug-up doorways, chewed edges. In most cases the answer is to remove the damaged piece and patch it, not to re-carpet the room.

How we repair pet-damaged carpet
We cut out the damaged area, and no more than the damaged area. A replacement piece goes in with its pile running the same way as the carpet around it, and the join is secured underneath.
The replacement piece has to come from you. The best source is a spare off-cut from when the carpet was laid. If there isn't one, it is very common for us to take a small section from the darkest corner of a wardrobe or cupboard, and fill that little gap with a plain off-cut of our own.
Even then, a patch rarely matches perfectly. Carpet out in the room has had years of sun and foot traffic that the wardrobe piece hasn't. The aim is a repair that is far less noticeable than the damage, at a fraction of the cost of new carpet.
Typical cat and dog damage to carpet
- Carpet clawed at doorways and the bottom of stairs
- Corners and edges dug up or chewed
- Loops pulled out by claws
- Areas where urine has soaked through, which usually means replacing the underlay beneath as well
We have been repairing carpet across Wellington for more than 30 years, and we come to you.

How our carpet repair process works
-
Tell us about the problem
Call us or fill in the form. If you can, send us a phone photo with a coin or your hand in it for scale. We give you a considered estimate, and if you're happy with it, you book a time for us to come to you.

We find a piece of your carpet
The patch has to be your own carpet. If you kept an off-cut when it was laid, we use that. If not, we take a small piece from inside a wardrobe or cupboard and fill that gap with a plain off-cut of ours.

We patch the damage
We cut out the damaged area and no more, fit your piece with the pile running the same way, and secure the join underneath.
Weighing it up?
Call us for a chat about the damage, or ask for an estimate and we'll tell you whether it's worth repairing.
Pet-damaged carpet questions
My cat has shredded the carpet by the door. Is that repairable?
Usually, yes. Damage at a doorway or in a corner is the most common pet repair we do, and because it is a defined area it patches well.
There's no spare carpet anywhere in the house.
That is common. The usual answer is a small piece taken from inside a wardrobe or cupboard, with that gap filled by a plain off-cut nobody sees. Be aware that even carpet from the same room rarely matches perfectly, because carpet out in the open fades and wears differently.
Will the patch disappear?
We'd rather be straight with you: a patch is an improvement, not a disappearing act. Done well it is far less noticeable than the damage, and far cheaper than new carpet.

Boyce is brilliant! I highly recommend him for his workmanship and he is polite, clean, tidy and very reasonably priced. We should have contacted him earlier and not put off the repairs we needed.

Boyce is an absolute wizard, I really thought there was no way the damage in the carpet wouldn't lead to having to replace it entirely, but he worked magic with a small off cut and you can't even tell there was an issue in the first place. He's also really friendly and professional, I highly recommend him.

Repairing a carpet costs a fraction of a new carpet.
Re-carpeting a room means uplift, underlay, disposal and a new carpet that may not match the next room. A repair deals with the damaged area and no more.
We'll be honest about the result. Carpet that has been out in the room for years has faded and worn, so a patch rarely matches it perfectly. A good repair is a real improvement, far less noticeable than the damage, rather than a perfect match.
If a repair isn't the right call for your carpet, we'll tell you.
